“Oh for goodness sakes…Brontes!” I shouted as I looked for him. He had torn the covers off me and dashed out the door. Now I couldn't find the little monster anywhere. As my search continued I realized something else. All the sheets in the house were gone. Even the ones in the dirty laundry pile were gone and so was the ottoman for some strange reason. What in the world was he doing?

As I started looking outside I heard him. No creature in the known universe had a voice quite like Brontes. He was singing off in the distance. “Oh this had better be good.” I rubbed my face. It was too early for this to be going on. I just wanted to go back to bed, but the closer I got to whatever Brontes was doing the further sleep was from my mind.

“What are doves! Baby don’t herd me! Don’t herd me no more!”

Definitely Brontes.

Finally I found him. Brontes was sitting atop the ottoman and had used the sheets to make a…stage? Or a lopsided sheet fort in the background, but he wasn’t singing alone. On the contrary there was another Yellow Bellied Wailing Waah-er. I think this was a female I had seen before, but I couldn’t think of her name. The purple female was croaking every so often and was watching him with adoring eyes.

I put my headphones in and hoped it would block out some of the sound. It did muffle the noise, to an extent, but it wasn’t as much as I had hoped. I put up with it for a half hour, how I do not know, but finally I picked up a nearby pinecone and chucked it at him. “Show’s over Brontes! We have things to do!”

Brontes began to bellow how rude I was and couldn’t I see he was entertaining this beautiful lady? I glanced at the Waah-er….love was blind I suppose.

I began gathering up the sheets, I would have to come back for the ottoman, but at least I knew where it was. “Say good day to your lady friend.” I took up an armful and headed for home.

“Farwell my lady Matilda! Till we meet again!” He shouted as he hopped away with me.

As we walked home all I could think was, “Dear God I hope they don’t breed.”
Brontes serenading the only one that truly admires his magnificence.
